Sinden - Captain

Things will be a little slow on Sinden.org (that's this website, but you can click it if you really want to) for a while. The site is transforming into "Captain Sinden.org" because I'm going back to Lake Delaware Boys' Camp where I am a tactical officer, specifically a Captain.

Yes, it's an Anglo-Catholic military camp.

Yes, the cannon sounds at 6:50 a.m. (Canons sound in the chapel where I get to play an 1877 Roosevelt.)

You can read my account of a day in camp life based on my experience there last summer.

Lake Delaware Boys' Camp, this photo says it's in Andes. Whatever. It's all the same.

Send me goodies!

Tramel, James - priest ordained in prison

The Episcopal News Service is reporting on James Tramel's ordination to the priesthood, a service at which California Bishop William Swing presided.

Tramel was ordained in State Prison, Solano, California where he is a prisoner.

After Tramel's ordination, Swing relinquished his role as presider and Tramel celebrated the Eucharist. Inmates from the prison congregation presented grape juice and a croissant from the visiting room's vending machines to be used for communion. Referring to his role as celebrant, Tramel said, "In that moment it felt like my whole life was coming into focus. It felt like I was right where I was supposed to be."

giant - furry wet

Totoro receives an umbrella from the girlsMy Neighbor Totoro (1988) is a really great movie. And it gets top honors for the song during the closing credits: "My Neighbor Totoro."

Rain tumbles down, the bus is late
Suddenly a furry wet giant is by your side
You can read the lyrics and hear this nifty Japanese electronica version of the song.

Archon

The author of this website is an organist whom the New York Times calls "repeatedly, insisting that he pay for his subscription". He likes to read parking meters, music, Texas Monthly and weather forecasts in Celcius, particularly whilst wearing cassock and surplice. He serves lasagna, overhand, as an example to many and on ecclesiastical juries. He takes photos, lots of dinner mints, and a little bit of time to get to know.
